My photography series depict sculptural mirror headpieces on a model in various environments. It’s a personal exploration of what it means to be connected (or disconnected) from the environments around us. While wearing the headpiece, the subject’s face, a typical indicator of identity and humanity, is obstructed and reflects (or distorts) the surroundings instead.
I want these images to create visual and psychological narratives that examine a relationship between an individual and what they choose to face. I believe it is a reminder that ultimately, we determine what to reflect back into the world.
For me, these masks specifically are about finding peace, finding strength, and finding resilience in your life even through those experiences that tear us down in different ways. It is a celebration and a reverence for choosing to build beauty, nuance, and strength from jagged shards of self.
